Duane Elverum, 42
Duane is a certified skipper who is constantly reminded how much more
there is to learn about sailing. In 2000 he quit his job and cashed out his
pension to take a 2 year trip that included year of crewing double-handed
offshore passages aboard the Hans Christian 43' Sundowner from San Francisco
to Puerto Vallarta, as well as passages in the in the Sea of Cortez. On the
main leg of his trip he crewed with 6 Italians aboard the 15m world rally
ketch Lady Samantha crossing from La Paz to Tahiti via the Marquesas,
Tuamotos and Society Islands.
In other sailing, he's righted a Laser more times than can be counted, and
despite numerous viewings of Trim for Speed, he has raced without
distinction in the RVYC Evening Series, The Deep Cove Regatta, and Coopers
Friday Nights. He claims he can trim for 1/4 knots in light airs, but this
is a sad lie he continues to mutter into his pint of Guinness.
Otherwise, he's a professor of design of at the Emily Carr Institute,
teaching eco-design and sustainable systems.

I'm also particularly interested in your boat as my father (& many other family members) have been afflicted with Muscular Dystrophy. A similar disease, and equally as heartbreaking in the effects that it has on family, MD is yet another mystery to the medical community and any support you raise for MS will be advantageous to all who suffer from muscular diseases.
I love to cook (even in large following seas), I fit well in tiny lazarettes, don't mind 2:00 watches and enjoy navigating and ...am usually found smiling in all circumstances.
